Bodegas Yuntero ends its 70th harvest with a satisfactory balance

10 October 2023

The Jesús del Perdón Cooperative has reached 140 million kilos of grapes. It has been a long campaign, which has lasted more than 60 days. Bodegas Yuntero consolidates itself as the second largest first-grade cooperative in Spain. Starting in the next fifteen days, the new 2023 vintage of young white wines will be on the market.

The Jesús del Perdón-Bodegas Yuntero Cooperative has concluded the 2023 harvest with a very positive balance, both in quantity and quality. It has been a long 70th campaign, lasting more than 60 days, motivated by the large number of varieties collected and received according to the maturation periods of each of them.

In total, the 140 million kilos of grapes, which represents 2% less than the last harvest; of which 106 correspond to white grapes and 34 to red grapes, in a very complicated campaign, with a harvest reduction in Castilla-La Mancha of 25% and in Spain of 20%, as a result of the drought and extreme temperatures. From Bodegas Yuntero they have expressed their satisfaction, having consolidated themselves as the second largest first-grade cooperative in Spain.

On the other hand, the commitment that the winery has been making in recent years to the diversification of varietal grapes. Although native grapes continue to be the majority, both Airén in whites and Cencibel or Tempranillo in reds, each campaign the varietals become more important. In whites: Macabeo, Verdejo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel and Viognier; and in reds: Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Garnacha and Petit Verdot. These varietals account for 30% of the production and provide a commercial and marketing advantage to Bodegas Yuntero, which allows it to offer the different markets and buyers personalized wines, adapted to the profiles of each client and consumer.

Likewise, the organic wine making, in its different varieties, also has great importance in the winery's commercial strategies. It is important to remember that the Jesús del Perdón Cooperative was a pioneer in Castilla-La Mancha, in 1992, in betting on organic farming and, since then, it has been consolidating markets with these products that account for 10% of production.

Once the harvest is finished, the work of selecting the different wines obtained begins, which will be released shortly. Starting in the next fifteen days, the new 2023 vintage of young white wines Epilogue, Yuntero and, later, Mundo de Yuntero. In the first tastings, already carried out, it is expected that they will be excellent wines, due to the good quality of the raw materials received, the optimal health condition and an analytical and organoleptic balance; without leaving behind, the great technical/enological team that, with their effort and professionalism, permanently ensures that they offer the market the best wines.

Commercially, the new campaign is proving to be very beneficial, with a significant growth in sales in all countries of the world, increasing the added value of the products, which takes Bodegas Yuntero to very favorable forecasts for the remuneration of the grapes to the partners.

Regarding the economic and financial situation of the Cooperative, it is satisfactory, closing the last year with a turnover of more than 67 million euros; which represents a historical record in its almost 70 years of life, with growth in all the activities and departments of the company. Likewise, the net worth will exceed 42 million euros, which implies a great balance of assets and maximum liquidity and solvency, which will allow it to continue facing the great challenges of technological and process improvements, as well as continue obtaining good results in the settlements of its partners.

Los strategic challenges For this campaign, they will be: consolidate the dimension; a permanent commitment to quality, with R&D processes to achieve, on a day-to-day basis, improved productivity, as well as the competitiveness of products and services; increase sales and positioning in packaged wines with added value; comply with environmental legislation; and, most importantly, direct the entire organization towards total customer satisfaction.
