Bodegas Yuntero has won two gold medals in the forty-second edition of the Challenge International du Vin competition, which took place on April 20 and 21 in Bordeaux (France), and whose results were made public on May 3. The wines from Bodegas Yuntero awarded with gold were the whites Epílogo Viognier 2016 and Epílogo Sauvignon Blanc 2017.
The Challenge International du Vin is the oldest wine competition in the neighboring country. Organized by the Concours Des Vins (CDV) association, it has ISO 9001 certification, guaranteeing the professionalism and quality of the contest.
In this 42nd edition, 3,761 wines – from thirty-seven countries – have participated. The jury made up of 800 international professional tasters has awarded a total of 1,197 wines. Of the winners, only four wines are Denomination of Origin La Mancha, and of them only two obtained the gold medal, those awarded to the Epilogues of Bodegas Yuntero.
Epilogue Sauvignon Blanc 2017, gold medal
This white wine from Bodegas Yuntero, with the Designation of Origin La Mancha, is made with the Sauvignon Blanc (90%) and small grain Muscatel (10%) grape varieties. Each variety is worked separately to later make the final blend.
It is a bright, pale yellow wine with great aromatic intensity. The floral and exotic aromas of the Sauvignon Blanc variety (grapefruit, mango, passion fruit) are very well integrated with the muscatel tones of the Muscatel variety. On the palate, it is a very fresh wine, with good volume. It has a honeyed, soft and silky sensation. The small natural carbonic point that the wine has gives it freshness. The palate is long and persistent.
Epilogue Viognier 2016, gold medal
It is a white wine made under the La Mancha Denomination of Origin, with the Viognier (90%) and Moscatel de Gran Menudo (10%) grape varieties.
The Epilogue Viognier is a lemony yellow color, very bright, with some very attractive greenish flashes. On the nose, it is a very complex wine, with a varietal aroma with a floral tone and hints of magician and pineapple. It has a small perfumed touch that makes it special due to the small percentage of muscat grapes. In the mouth, it is a very voluminous, glyceric, soft and dense wine, with a very pleasant aftertaste. Of great structure and persistence.
