Bodegas Yuntero wines receive gold medals in the 2017 Berliner Wein Trophy international competition, held in Germany from February 2 to 5, and whose results have just been announced. It is one of the most internationally recognized competitions in the wine sector, due to its strict rules and for having the endorsement and sponsorship of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), as well as the International Union of Oenologists (UIOE).
In this 21st edition, a total of 6,291 wines from around the world have participated and have been evaluated by a jury of 200 professionals, divided into 34 tasting groups. The two wines from Bodegas Yuntero that won a Gold medal are the red Yuntero Crianza 2013 and the white wine, from organic farming, Mundo de Yuntero Blanco BIO (2016 vintage).
In compliance with OIV regulations, only 30% of the samples presented can obtain an award. This restriction gives the wines awarded by the Berliner Wein Trophy a seal of guarantee and quality for the final consumer.
Yuntero Crianza 2013
With the La Mancha designation of origin, it is made with the Tempranillo (85%) and Petit Verdot (15%) grape varieties. Cherry red in color with slight aged reflections, it is aged for six months in American oak barrels and another twelve in the bottle, before going on the market. “The barrel aging gives it toasted aromas, and the combination with the Petit Verdot grape makes it a more tannic wine in the mouth,” says Bodegas Yuntero winemaker Antonio Pérez Carrascosa.
World of Yuntero Blanco BIO 2016
Bodegas Yuntero's organic white wine is a blend of the Verdejo (65%) and Sauvignon Blanc (35%) grape varieties, strictly selected from the Bodegas Yuntero vineyards covered by organic farming regulations. In addition to the gold medal received at the Berliner Wein Trophy 2017, this organic white wine also has a silver medal from the Catavinum 2017 competition.
The Jesús del Perdón-Bodegas Yuntero Cooperative was a pioneer in Castilla-La Mancha in producing and marketing wine from organic farming, under the Mundo de Yuntero brand. He began allocating five hectares of his land to organic farming. Today it already uses 1,700 hectares for this type of cultivation, reaching an annual production of organic grapes of 17.5 million kilos.
