Twenty fourth grade students from La Milagrosa School in Manzanares (Ciudad Real) visited the Bodegas Yuntero facilities yesterday, Thursday, October 18. The children, between the ages of 9 and 10, toured the winery, located in the aforementioned Manchego municipality, to see first-hand what the winemaking process is, from the reception of the grapes at the unloaders to its final bottling.
With this initiative, Bodegas Yuntero aims to bring the trade of viticulture and oenology closer to the youngest, a profession deeply rooted in the community of La Mancha, the region with the most vineyard cultivation in all of Europe, and instill in them, in view of their adulthood, the importance of moderate and responsible consumption.
The students showed great interest throughout the tour and were witnesses of the unloading of airén grapes, recently harvested and from the vineyards of the members of the Jesús del Perdón-Bodegas Yuntero Cooperative, currently made up of 850 viticulturists with 9,000 hectares of their own vineyards. The children carefully observed the process of crushing the grapes and walked through the white grape jaraíz of the winery where they also tasted the freshly squeezed grape juice.
The children also entered the barrel room, where the red reserve and crianza wines from Bodegas Yuntero rest, accompanied throughout the tour by María Teresa Galván, Marketing Manager of the winery, who explained in detail the laborious and exciting art of oenology.
