Bodegas Yuntero has won two silver medals in the 18th edition of the EcoRacimo 2017 International Contest for its organic wines Mundo de Yuntero White and Mundo de Yuntero Tinto, both from the 2016 vintage. The EcoRacimo contest only admits wines made exclusively with grapes from of organic farming. It is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación de Córdoba, the City Council of Montilla and the national non-profit association Ecovalia, which works to promote organic production.
In Spain, almost 100,000 hectares are devoted to the cultivation of organic grapes, being the world leader in the production of this type of wine. Castilla-La Mancha is the largest producer of organic grapes in the country, specifically it has 54,512 hectares of organic vineyards (2015 data), according to statistics on organic production prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment.
Organic and healthy wine
Organic farming not only favors the environment, but it has been proven that its fruits, having been grown naturally, without the use of chemical substances, contain a higher nutritional level than other foods, in addition to preserving their flavor much better.
For its part, numerous studies support that wine is responsible for 25% of the beneficial effects of the Mediterranean Diet. In addition, its moderate consumption can reduce the risk of mortality by up to 25%; decrease conditions such as diabetes; or reduce cognitive deterioration and dementia, among many other benefits, as verified in the VIII edition of the congress Wine & Health (Wine and Health), held in La Rioja last February, attended by more than two hundred experts from the world of nutrition and medicine from around the world.
Bodegas Yuntero, pioneer in organic wine in Castilla-La Mancha
In support of environmentally friendly agriculture, the Jesús del Perdón-Bodegas Yuntero Cooperative was a pioneer in Castilla-La Mancha in producing and marketing organic grape wines. It began in 1992, allocating five hectares of its land to the cultivation of organic vineyards. Currently, there are already 1,700 hectares dedicated to this type of cultivation, with an annual production of organic grapes of 17.5 million kilos.
One of the brands under which Bodegas Yuntero launches its range of BIO wines is Mundo de Yuntero which on this occasion has received two silver medals –both in its red grape version and in its white grape version– in the EcoRacimo 2017 contest. In addition, the white Mundo de Yuntero 2016 has the gold medal from the German contest Berlin Wine Trophy, held last February; and the silver medal of the Spanish contest Catavinum 2017.
yuntero with the environment
The Jesús del Perdón-Bodegas Yuntero Cooperative cares for the environment in all its production processes. The organic vineyards are not subjected to any type of chemical, phytosanitary or nitrogen treatment. Since 2014, the Cooperative has had a new treatment plant for the control and treatment of waste, in compliance with current regulations, which has involved an investment of half a million euros.
Bodegas Yuntero was awarded the SIGFITO awards in 2015 for its work in recycling phytosanitary products. The awards, given by the non-profit entity Sigfito Agroenvases, recognize the effort made by the Cooperative in conserving the environment and its commitment to the sustainable development of agriculture.
Los Mundos de Yuntero, red and white
The red Mundo de Yuntero is a wine obtained after careful preparation and selection of grape varieties from organic farming Tempranillo (50%), Merlot (25%) and Syrah (25%). It is cherry in color with purple tones, with aromas reminiscent of ripe berries and wild red fruits. On the palate, it is harmonious, structured and with character.
The white wine Mundo de Yuntero is a blend of the organic grape varieties Verdejo (75%) and Sauvignon Blanc (25%). Pale, bright yellow, it stands out for its fine fruity and floral aromas. On the palate, it is fresh, cheerful and delicate with a long finish.
