A delegation of American importers and distributors traveled to Castilla-La Mancha this week to see, first-hand, the wines produced by various La Mancha wineries, including Bodegas Yuntero.
The “US Reverse Trade Mission 2014”, promoted by the Castilla La Mancha-Tierra de Viñedos Foundation, aims to ensure the presence of La Mancha wines in the US market. For four days, from January 27 to 30, 2014, the North American delegation visited various wineries in the area and tasted the different products in a day of tastings, organized specifically.
Tasting wines
Bodegas Yuntero, which in 2014 celebrates 60 years of existence, has participated in this day of tastings with the following wines: the whites from the 2013 vintage, Yuntero Macabeo, Epílogo Blanco and the organic Mundo de Yuntero Blanco; the reds, Yuntero Tinto 2013, Yuntero Crianza 2010, Yuntero Reserva 2007, Epílogo Roble 2012 and the ecological Mundo de Yuntero Tinto 2013; and finally, the Yuntero Rosado 2013 wine.
During the past year (2013), the wines of Bodegas Yuntero received more than a dozen national and international awards, and the recognition of the American critic Robert Parker who gave a very high score to three of its wines (Epílogo Blanco 2012, Epílogo Roble 2011 and the ecological Mundo Tempranillo 2012, with 90, 89 and 90 Parker points, respectively).
Wine consumption in the US
During the last 10 years, wine consumption in the United States has increased constantly at an approximate rate of 3% annually, except for the years 2008 and 2009 when it grew around 1%, according to the Tierra de Viñedos Foundation. In 2011, it was also the first country in the world to consume quality wine, with 3.7 billion bottles, according to a study by the International Wine and Spirits Research.
Currently, Bodegas Yuntero markets its products in nearly twenty countries, including the United States. Specifically, one of the export objectives of this winery for 2014 is to strengthen, consolidate and increase sales in this country.
