Bodegas Yuntero, triple gold and Berliner Wine Trophy

Once again, Bodegas Yuntero achieves recognition for the quality of its wines in one of the most prestigious international competitions in the sector, the Berliner Wein Tropy 2016. In the latest edition of this German competition – held in Berlin from February 4 to 7 and whose results were announced at the end of that same month – three wines from Bodegas Yuntero have been awarded the gold medal: the red Reserva 2010, and the young Yuntero Tinto and Yuntero Blanco, from the 2015 vintage.

The Berliner Wein Trophy is one of the wine competitions with the strictest controls and standards in the sector, giving the award-winning wines an indisputable seal of quality. It has the endorsement and sponsorship of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), an organization that guarantees the holding of the competitions in compliance with international tasting standards. And also from the International Union of Oenologists (UIOE), a group that represents more than 20,000 professionals and 12,000 companies in the wine sector.

At the national level, Bodegas Yuntero received three bronze medals on Thursday, March 3, at the celebration of the 29th edition of the Quality Awards for varietal wines bottled with DO La Mancha. The bronze winners were: Yuntero Blanco 2015; Yuntero Reserve 2010; and Mundo de Yuntero Tinto 2015, the latter made using organic farming.

Yuntero Reserva 2010, gets his third gold medal and a bronze

With the gold awarded in Berlin, the Reserva 2010 red wine has already accumulated three gold medals since it went on the market last September 2015. Specifically in the Asia Wine Trophy 2015 competitions (Korea); SAKURA 2016 (Japan); and the aforementioned Berliner Wein Trophy (Germany). Finally, the bronze is received in the DO La Mancha Quality Awards, within the category of reserve red wines.

With the La Mancha Designation of Origin, it is made with the Tempranillo grape variety (100%), which has been collected, by manual harvest, from the oldest vineyards owned by the Jesús del Perdón-Bodegas Yuntero Cooperative.

It has a long maceration of the grapes during fermentation, at a temperature of 24-25ºC. After this process, it is aged for twelve months in mixed oak barrels (French oak bottoms and American oak staves) and, before being marketed, it spends at least two years in the bottle.

With a brick-red cherry red color, it is a wine of great finesse and aromatic complexity. The spicy and balsamic notes of its barrel aging stand out, as well as very pleasant roasted notes of coffee and mocha. In the mouth, it is a very round, smooth and elegant wine, with very sweet tannins, which leaves great persistence.

2015, a promising vintage

The young wines Yuntero Blanco and Yuntero Tinto, from the 2015 vintage, have been awarded gold in the Berliner Wein Trophy competition. These are the first gold medals that these young wines have received since their release on the market, the result of the 2015 harvest.

The Yuntero Blanco 2015 wine, which has also been awarded the bronze medal by the DO La Mancha Regulatory Council, is made with the Macabeo (85%) and Sauvignon Blanc (15%) grape varieties.

It is characterized by its pale steely yellow color, with greenish tones. It is a clean, crystalline and bright wine, in which floral and fruity aromas mix. The Sauvignon Blanc grape variety gives it a somewhat honeyed profile, resulting in a very interesting aromatic complexity. In the mouth it is intense, frank and cheerful, with great harmony between its components, and long persistence.

The young Yuntero Tinto 2015, gold in Berlin, is made with the Tempranillo and Syrah grape varieties (85% and 15%, respectively). It has an intense color, purplish cherry red with a maroon rim. Its aroma of red forest fruits predominates: currants, blackberry and cherry. In the mouth it is tasty; well structured but at the same time light, with very pleasant tannins.

Yuntero's organic red wine accumulates two medals: gold and bronze

The Mundo de Yuntero red wine, from the 2015 vintage, is obtained after careful preparation and selection of the organic grape varieties Tempranillo (50%), Merlot (25%) and Syrah (25%). The Jesús del Perdón-Bodegas Yuntero Cooperative was a pioneer in Castilla-La Mancha in producing and marketing wine from organic farming, under the Mundo de Yuntero brand. He began allocating five hectares of his land to organic farming. Today it already uses 1,700 hectares for this type of cultivation, reaching an annual production of organic grapes of 17.5 million kilos.

The Regulatory Council of the DO La Mancha has awarded this young organic wine from Bodegas Yuntero with a bronze medal, during the 29th edition of its awards, held in Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real) on March 3. Furthermore, this same wine has just received the gold medal at the Japanese SAKURA 2016 competition, characterized by having a jury made up exclusively of women.

Yuntero's organic red wine is cherry colored with purple tones, it has aromas reminiscent of ripe berries and wild red fruits. In the mouth, it is harmonious, structured and with character.
