Bodegas Yuntero has won two medals in the forty-third edition of the Challenge International du Vin competition, which took place on April 12 and 13 in Bordeaux (France), and whose results were announced last week.
The red Yuntero Reserva 2013 has received a GOLD medal, being the only gold medal awarded to a reserva with Denomination of Origin La Mancha (DO La Mancha). Bodegas Yuntero has also received a silver medal for its white wine Epílogo Sauvignon Blanc from the 2018 vintage.
The Challenge International du Vin is the oldest wine competition in the neighboring country. Organized by the Concours Des Vins (CDV) association, it has ISO 9001 certification, guaranteeing the professionalism and quality of the contest.
In this 43rd edition, 4,000 wines – from thirty-eight countries – have participated, evaluated by a jury of 800 international professional tasters. Only seven DO La Mancha wines have been awarded by the jury, among them those made by Bodegas Yuntero: Yuntero Reserva 2013 (gold) and Epílogo Sauvignon Blanc 2018 (silver).
Yuntero Reserve 2013, gold medal
Distinguished with the gold medal at Challenge International du Vin 2019, Yuntero Reserva 2013 is a single-varietal wine, made from 100% Cencibel grapes, selected from the oldest glass vineyards of Bodegas Yuntero.
It has been aged in mixed, American and French oak barrels for at least twelve months. Which gives it a great structure and aromatic complexity with notes of ripe fruits, vanilla and smoke. With great persistence in the mouth, it is a round, smooth and elegant wine, with very sweet tannins.
Epilogue Sauvignon Blanc 2018, silver medal
This young white wine from Bodegas Yuntero, from the 2018 vintage, is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc variety. The grapes are harvested at night to preserve their freshness, the must is extracted without any type of pressing, by direct bleeding and is fermented at very low temperatures, to extract greater aromatic expressiveness. Bright and pale greenish yellow in color, it is of great intensity and aromatic complexity. The floral and exotic aromas of the Sauvignon Blanc variety (grapefruit, mango, passion fruit) are very well integrated. In the mouth, it is very fresh and with good volume, soft, delicate and with a long and persistent palate.
